Steps Involved in Swedanam Therapy
Step 1: Preparation
Begin with an Abhyanga (oil massage) using warm medicated herbal oils suited to the individual's dosha (body constitution). This step enhances the therapy's effects by nourishing the skin and loosening toxins.
Step 2: Steaming Setup
Herbal decoctions are prepared using specific ingredients like neem, tulsi, or dashamolam, based on the individual's needs. The steam generator or Swedana box is preheated.
Step 3: Steam Application
The herbal steam is applied evenly across the body, inducing sweating. The duration varies (10–20 minutes) based on the person's health and tolerance.
Step 4: Post-Treatment Care
After the session, the individual is allowed to rest for a while to stabilize body temperature. A warm herbal drink may be offered to support the detoxification process. Avoid direct exposure to cold or wind immediately after the therapy.
